Where we get our news
One key strategy of authoritarian leaders is to “flood the zone”, creating so much chaos that it overwhelms people, making it difficult to know what to focus on or causing us to tune out completely.
We wanted to share three sources we love to tune into–voices that help us synthesize the chaos into a cohesive narrative. By having sources that offer concise news, we have less risk of burn out and more capacity to continue the resistance!
Chop Wood, Carry Water: “It’s a daily political activism newsletter that comes out 5 days a week. Subscribe and you’ll receive a short, encouraging email in your inbox each weekday (except Wednesday) telling you how you can make a difference by taking 5-7 minutes worth of EASY actions. You’ll receive an additional Sunday newsletter bursting with hopeful news, Democratic accomplishments, and all the “blue wins” I could find.”
Heather Cox Richardson: “I’m a professor of American history. This is a chronicle of today’s political landscape, but because you can’t get a grip on today’s politics without an outline of America’s Constitution, and laws, and the economy, and social customs, this newsletter explores what it means, and what it has meant, to be an American.”
The Anti-Authoritarian Playbook: “My anti-authoritarian vocation has taken me around the world to work with people studying right wing ideologies and movements and building pro democracy resistance. This journal is a platform for the dialogue I’ve been having with myself and others over those years of work. It’s also a forum for discussion and peer education. I call it the Anti-Authoritarian Playbook, and invite you to join me as I learn more about the struggle ahead.”
